How to do a pedicure at home

To carry out your pedicure at the comfort of your house, the steps outlined below are your best guide.

Prepare your Nails

A complete nail preparation process includes removing existing paints on your nail, clipping of the nails with nail cutters, and filing of the nails to your desired shape. To prepare your nail for an exquisite pedicure experience, follow this procedure outlined below.

  • With the aid of a polish removal and cotton pad, you can get rid of all existing nail polish and also remove excess oil from your nails.
  • Clip your nails with the help of a nail cutter. Avoid cutting too deep or cutting corners; you might end up with painful nails. Ensure you cut across.
  • Shape your nails with a nail filer to your desired shape (Pointed, Oval, Square or Squoval). File your nails in a direction to get the desired shape and to avoid weakening them

Soak your Feet

Soaking your feet in warm water is the most refreshing stage of the pedicure. It is a perfect way to unwind and rest after a hectic day. The steps we highlight will guide you correctly through this delightful experience.

  • Fill up your tub to ankle level with warm water for this procedure
  • Add a shampoo and few drops of Sea Salt into the water. You may also add half cup of Epsom salt (It will soothe inflammation, reduce pain and roughness), lemon juice (Neutralises Odour), essential oil and smooth pebbles for a refreshing experience.
  • Soak your feet in your prepared solution comfortably for 15 - 20 minutes and dry off completely when done.

Get Rid of Dry Skin

The skin on the feet is 12 times thicker than other skins in the body. Therefore, you should not be afraid to scrape. Here is how to go about it.

  • Apply cuticle cream on the base of your toenails as it softens dead skin. You can then proceed to remove the dead skin with a pumice stone or a foot file. Remove the skin on time to avoid cracks and infection that can be caused by skin hardening.
  • Scrub your feet to exfoliate dead skin from your feet. Scrub your heels, soles, the area between your toes, ankles, and sides of your feet with a face or foot scrub. Scrub until you feel all places are smooth, however, don't overdo it.

Moisturize

Now that your feet are clean and new, you need to moisturize them for a refreshing feeling. Massage your ankles and feet for as long as 10 minutes until you are satisfied. Avoid the use of scented lotions during the massaging process as it causes nail polish to crack. You can use almond oil, olive oil, and your favourite essential oil together for massage. If you have a crack on your feet, apply a mixture of Vaseline and lime juice.

Polish and Shine

Once you are done with moisturization, you can go ahead to polish your nails and shine on. You cannot afford to skip these necessary steps if you want to crown all your efforts with something significant

  • Apply paint on your base coat and allow it to dry for about two minutes. Base coat smoothes ridges and creates a surface for your color.
  • Polish your nail with any color of your preference. Apply two coats of nail polish, allowing each to get dry before applying the other.
  • Now it's time to shine. Apply top coat to smooth away any flaw in the process of polishing your nail. With the help of a top coat, your nails will attain maximum luster and shine.
